Pitching Instructor Dayna Yorks
Dayna Yorks is considered by local softball instructors to be one of the most outstanding softball pitchers and players in Needham High history. Voted MVP of the Rockets as well as the MVP of the Bay State Conference as a High School senior in 2003, Dayna first played College Varsity softball at Drew University then transferred to Wesleyan. At Wesleyan she was a vital part of the Varsity as a pitcher and first baseman and was voted captain her senior year.
Dayna has been coaching pitchers in Newton and surrounding towns over the past 6 years, including a number of high school varsity and college pitchers as well as young beginners. Unique among softball instructors, Dayna did not throw her first windmill pitch until she was 14! She knows how to accelerate a pitcher's growth and development and to inspire the commitment to improvement necessary for success in the pitcher's circle. Dayna stresses building solid technique and mechanics as the foundation of all successful pitchers. Dayna is also an outstanding fielder and hitter and so she understands the importance of pitchers being complete players.
A certified group fitness instructor with a passion for health and fitness, Dayna knows a lot about the body and how it works; she always teaches with safety in mind. She attributes her success (especially after having started pitching so late) to her "passion and practice. I threw everyday with my dad (literally) and loved the journey." To top off this outstanding package, Dayna is a friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing person who loves working with kids.
